Mount Elizabeth Station is a real working cattle station, and has been run by the same family continuously since 1945.
They’ve recently begun offering tourism facilities, and it’s a proper rustic bush experience. If you’re after a taste of the real Kimberley, Mt Elizabeth is a great place to check out.
Mt Elizabeth station is 30km off the Gibb River Road.
The Attractions
As you’d expect there’s good hiking and a couple of great waterholes to explore.
For the adventurous, Wunnamurra Gorge is a rough 10km drive but it’s well worth the effort. At a picturesque section of the Barnett River, there’s a waterfall with a cool little rock ledge you can sit on while the water cascades around you.
Reaching Hann River Gorge is a lot easier, and there’s a lovely little beach and a shallow section of the river to enjoy.
Camping and Accommodation
Mt Elizabeth has a nice shady campground with hot showers. Homestead rooms with cooked meals are also available.
